Organic CottonThe ORGANIC COTTON is a stock collection of the highest quality garments produced in 100% pure organically grown cotton. It is is certified by the Control Union World Group, to the Organic Exchange 100 guidelines and the Skal International standards for sustainable textile production, which verify conformity with the organic regulations of Europe, Japan and the United States.
There is both undyed and dyed organic cotton items, and to achieve organic certification, only azo-free dyes that meet the requirements of the Global Organic Standard are used in the dyeing process; the Oeko-Tex Standard certification comprehensively addresses these issues.
Bamboo GarmentsNaturally sustainable BAMBOO is rapidly emerging into the fashion world. Fabric woven from bamboo yarn is light, almost translucent, and softer than cotton. It has a natural quality that feels like silk, but has the advantage of being machine-washable. This natural fibre is hypoallergenic, absorbent, and fast drying. It is naturally anti-bacterial and will not hold odour. Like other natural fibres, it allows the body to breathe as the fabric absorbs the perspiration away from the body. It also is the most sustainable of the natural fibres. It is fast-growing - the type of bamboo used for making fabric, commonly known as Moso, can reach a mature height of 75 feet in just 45 to 60 days. Because of its natural antibacterial properties, it needs no pesticides. This fabric is cooling in summer, warm in winter, and environmentally friendly all year round. Combined with 30% ORGANIC cotton, our BAMBOO fabric becomes softer than ever, has beautiful drape, and prints perfectly.
Sutsu CommitmentsAlthough we currently cannot provide all Sutsu garments as either Organic or Bamboo we are aiming to by the end of 2011. All our garments are made with consideration of our actions in respect of the environment and society. Therefore as this page explains we aim to make as little impact on the environment as possible but without comprimising either the style or quality of the garments. No matter how much we clean up our act, we are still polluters, we must account for this so to offer some positive response to this we give support to environmental groups close to our heart, currently the Beach Clean Network and Woodland Friends.
We aim to know the consequences of our actions. Much of the damage to the environment is done either unintentionally, through ignorance, or by willfully ignoring the chain of decisions that lead to bad results, therefore we aim to lead an examined life.
